Panul Also Protects Us

On weekends we find Bosque Panul full of athletes (mostly cyclists) and families sharing wonderful moments. However, Panul is more than just a recreational space.
It has played an important role in the natural protection of its neighbors, as demonstrated by the case of landslides. One of the causes of these events is high-rise urban development, which leads to deforestation, soil compaction, and waterproofing, among other effects.
If we go back in time, the pre-cordilleran area of La Florida and Peñalolén was affected by this natural disaster 21 years ago, leaving more than 32,000 people displaced and 23 dead.
Every year, a great torrent of water flows down Calle María Angélica from Alto Macul, where the minimum separation between sewer chambers is completely insufficient. With more buildings in this area, a repeat of these natural disasters is considered possible. Let's prevent our communes from continuing to be affected by those who only want to profit from this! Let's take advantage of our spaces and the natural benefits they provide us — if Panul takes care of us, why don't we take care of it? Let's set aside selfishness and not let anyone run roughshod over us.
