Spring festival at La Pepiniere garden — Red was there!

Last Saturday, October 19, the "Spring Festival" was held at the La Pepiniere nursery school, located in the La Florida district, where girls, boys, parents, and teachers from this community came together to raise awareness about the respect we owe to Mother Earth — living in harmony with her to create a healthy environment to inhabit.

With the arrival of spring, many organizations and communities hold carnivals, festivals, marches, and fairs to commemorate this important solstice — and the La Pepiniere nursery school was no exception.
The festival began at around 10:30 a.m. with a carnival march through the streets near the nursery school, where children, parents, and teachers danced, sang, and chanted to the beat of a comparsa in defense of the forests and life. This carnival march gave way to a large community breakfast, at which Red por la Defensa de la Precordillera was present to invite the entire Pepiniere community to join the defense of Panul.

After this delightful community breakfast, the nursery school parents performed four nature-themed plays — one of which was a story about our beloved Bosque Panul. What was it about? In brief, it is about a father and his son (Pepo and David, respectively) who go to visit Panul. While there, they encounter many forest inhabitants — trees, birds, and insects — as well as forest users, such as hikers, cyclists, and families. When night falls, Pepo and David stay to sleep in the forest, and while sleeping, David (the son) has a nightmare: Bosque Panul is felled due to the negligence of the authorities and the greed of the real estate companies. The next morning, David tells his father about his dream, and to help defend the forest they decide to organize a march and raise community awareness to prevent the felling.
These beautiful initiatives remind us that not only our work as Red has helped the population take ownership of Panul and other territories — it also forces us to acknowledge that each day there are more organized communities who care about the environment, and that in every corner there are people, big and small, who work and pour their energy into preventing the destruction of places so essential to us and to our wellbeing on this planet.

As Red, we wish to sincerely thank La Pepiniere nursery school for inviting us to be part of this beautiful experience. We wish to make special mention of Tía Cony, the school's director, and Natalia Jara, a parent and member of Huerto La Berenjena, who invited and welcomed us with enormous enthusiasm, energy, and warmth.
Thank you very much.
WE ARE GROWING EVERY DAY — NO TO THE FELLING OF PANUL! FOREST OR DEATH!
