1ST SELF-DIRECTED WILDFIRE MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP

Red por la Defensa de la Precordillera will hold, on Friday, December 28 at 6:30 p.m., the first "Self-Directed Wildfire Management Workshop" — open and free to all those interested in participating and protecting Bosque Panul in the La Florida district.

Arson attacks that left around 37 hectares of native forest burned and the complete lack of response from La Florida's municipal authorities have led the community to react and organize a concrete action plan to protect Bosque Panul.
Red por la Defensa de la Precordillera will hold, on Friday, December 28 at 6:30 p.m., the first "Self-Directed Wildfire Management Workshop" — open and free to all those interested in participating.
The purpose of the workshop is to systematize and share the knowledge acquired by Red members with the community, creating a brigade of volunteers who can respond quickly and effectively to a fire or other emergency.
This is the first step toward creating an Action Plan that will organize and coordinate the community to act rapidly in response to such events.
It should be recalled that, in less than one week, on December 5 and 8, Bosque Panul suffered two forest fires with characteristics consistent with intentionality. In the first, three simultaneous and distant outbreaks were recorded; in the second fire, three more outbreaks were added in locations different from the previous ones, along with a pile of dry grass with an accelerant.
Added to this, the area affected by the fires coincides with the zone planned for the real estate mega-project of more than 1,300 housing units of the company Gesterra.

A few years ago, around ten forest fires were recorded in the district of Peñalolén in forests where similar real estate projects had not been permitted.
At present, Bosque Panul is completely unprotected as it is private land and not a Public Community Park as Red proposes. Added to this, the Municipality of La Florida has not made the necessary changes to the Municipal Zoning Plan (PRC), which would allow the protection of the Metropolitan Region's last native forest and prevent the construction of real estate mega-projects.
This is why we invite all those who love and care for Panul to be part of the Forest Brigades — a group of trained volunteers in wildfire management who will coordinate to permanently monitor and protect the threatened territory.
We need everyone's help to defend Panul. We will be prepared for any danger or those with intentions to destroy and make this forest disappear.
