Message to the community visiting Bosque Panul
Through social media we learned that a group of cyclists, called "La Tropa," is organizing a bicycle race with high attendance in the Panul.
The use of the forest as a cycling route adds to a series of bad practices that irreversibly damage Bosque Panul. Just to name a few: bringing pets, making bonfires, entering with motorcycles, organizing mass parties, burying animals, and leaving garbage. All these practices damage the flora and cause great stress on the forest's fauna, altering their behaviors — such as the abandonment of nesting sites by birds and insects, the transmission of infections, and even the death of wildlife due to human behavior.
In addition, they worsen soil erosion and therefore increase forest degradation, giving real estate developers arguments to push for the forest to be urbanized.
We ask the community, and especially the organizers of bicycle races, not to participate in or hold this type of activity in Bosque Panul, for the good of the forest and its fragile balance.
Likewise, we believe it is urgent that we come together to discuss the good practices that generate harmonious coexistence with the forest, and we are grateful to all those who join in making an active commitment to the forest.
