RESIDENTS TRAIN AS THE FIRST MEMBERS OF BOSQUE PANUL'S BRIGADE
Red por la Defensa de la Precordillera successfully held the first session of the "Self-Directed Wildfire Management Workshop", creating the first volunteer brigade to deal with arson attacks like those that occurred at the beginning of December.
20 residents are now part of the Bosque Panul Brigade — the first organization created from within the community to protect the Metropolitan Region's last native forest.
Red por la Defensa de la Precordillera successfully held the "Self-Directed Wildfire Management Workshop" session through a training talk followed by field reconnaissance — forming the first brigade of volunteers equipped to respond quickly and effectively to a fire.
The Forest Brigades aim to create a network of residents who coordinate and collaborate in the permanent protection of the threatened territory, following the recent arson attacks that affected the native forest and left around 37 hectares burned.
It should be recalled that on December 5 and 8, Bosque Panul suffered two intentional forest fires, and the affected area coincides with the zone planned for the real estate mega-project of the company Gesterra.
The self-directed wildfire management workshops are an ongoing training process aimed at creating traveling educational materials that can be shared across different contexts.
For now, Red will continue holding self-directed workshops free of charge and open to all interested parties, welcoming contributions that help generate knowledge in the service of the community of users and defenders of Bosque Panul.
