New vote to decide the future of Bosque Panul

After suspending the vote scheduled for last Wednesday, Mayor Carter will try again with his proposal to urbanize Bosque Panul. The vote has been rescheduled for this Monday, November 3, at 7:00 p.m., at La Florida's City Hall.
Let us recall that Amendment No. 9 promoted by Rodolfo Carter does not create a park in the native forest, but rather maintains an urban land use and allows the subdivision and destruction of the forest, facilitating the establishment of commerce and the construction of shops, libraries, multi-use courts, gyms, swimming pools, and rodeo arenas — all with their respective parking facilities and vehicle traffic lanes, as well as the installation of sewage systems, public lighting, and cell towers, among other things.
The reason the vote did not take place last Wednesday is that Mayor Carter and Councilmember Marco Espinoza reached an agreement. It consists of holding a meeting on Monday morning — before the afternoon vote — between the mayor, the councilmembers, and the Regional Ministers (SEREMIs) of Housing and Environment, to analyze the difficult situation in which Bosque Panul could find itself if Carter's proposal is approved.
We wish to emphasize that Bosque Panul remains in danger, as it has still not been recognized as an area of natural value.
If La Florida's mayor continues to refuse to grant this protection through collusion with or fear of real estate company Gesterra, only Intendant Orrego will be able to protect Panul — by declaring it an intermunicipal park through an amendment to the Santiago Metropolitan Zoning Plan.
We call on citizens to remain vigilant regarding the actions of the authorities who have the jurisdiction to protect Panul. Now more than ever, its protection depends on us.
