Abstract
This thesis will explain the issues that reflect the fundamental threads of why Santiago is not functioning correctly. By no means does it aim to provide a detailed analysis of Chilean society, but rather to highlight tangible urban facts that trigger and contribute to this change in the city's primary purpose.
Topics such as the segregation and exclusion of peripheral areas, the current urbanization strategy on the piedmont, the complete disconnection from the region's natural ecosystems, and the current "urban development poles" promoted by Santiago's planning authorities are the main subjects analyzed.
