MAYOR OF LA FLORIDA AUTHORIZES AGUAS ANDINAS PROJECT IN THE HEART OF BOSQUE PANUL
The supposed "protection" of Bosque Panul carried out two years ago by Mayor Rodolfo Carter, with the agreement of Intendant Claudio Orrego, has demonstrated that Panul is totally unprotected.
First, the community had already raised the alarm a few days earlier about the logging of 5 hectares of forest, carried out by real estate company ENACO. This was certified by CONAF through a citizen complaint.
Now, since the construction of homes in Santa Sofía de Lo Cañas was permitted without running water, a plan is being pushed to build an Aguas Andinas plant in the heart of the native forest.
If this project goes ahead, it would destroy and impact around 50 hectares, particularly due to the infrastructure and roads required.
Everything indicates that the owners of Panul (the Navarrete Rolando family) negotiated with the Municipality and the Intendancy a way to profit from the forest — while also advancing the real estate project they are eager to build.
Let us also remember that neither the government nor the municipality has been willing to create a park in Panul, which would prevent this type of threat.
We call on all those who love the forest to be more vigilant than ever, and to join the efforts to create a Community Park that defends it from destruction.
