Mayor of La Florida Rodolfo Carter will authorize real estate projects in Bosque Panul
In a private meeting held between the Municipality of La Florida and representatives of real estate companies, the current mayor Rodolfo Carter presented a map of "real estate developments" for the municipality in 2019, announcing the execution of three projects within Bosque Panul.
The mayor of La Florida, Rodolfo Carter, has not only failed to protect Bosque Panul, but is now seeking to replace it with houses and concrete in order to gain financial and political benefits.
At least that is what can be inferred from the real estate development forum and cocktail event held by the municipality in the Norteamérica Room of the Intercontinental Hotel in the municipality of Las Condes, attended by major real estate companies that have approved projects in La Florida or intend to carry them out.
During the forum, titled "Real Estate Development: La Florida, one of the municipalities with the greatest growth potential in the Metropolitan Region", the mayor presented an image of the municipality showing three real estate projects within Bosque Panul, three projects in Alto Macul, and several more along Tobalaba and Walker Martínez, with most of the development concentrated on Vicuña Mackenna 14, in a municipality that is currently in crisis, with collapsed roads, 30,000 people living in high-risk zones, and no green spaces.
Let us recall that the mayor is currently suspended for a month from his duties, due to a deficit in his management exceeding 20 billion pesos, along with non-payment of workers' contributions, the closure of municipal schools, contracts, concessions and unnecessary expenses, zero environmental management, among other serious problems. For this reason, the Tricel applied the most severe sanction short of removal from office.
Given this situation, and to plug the financial gaps, the mayor will desperately seek financial help, and the real estate company Enaco, owner of the entrance to Bosque Panul (Fundo Zavala or El Rincón, 60 ha) which has already cleared forest, could be a "good partner".
The community organized in the Parque Comunitario will not allow new projects to attempt to destroy Panul, further collapsing the municipality. We demand that the suspended mayor stop his plan to approve real estate projects in the last native forest of Santiago and in the precordillera of La Florida. We want more public parks, not more houses. We call on everyone to stay alert — new mobilizations are being planned to defend the territory.
