Some months ago, the Navarrete Rolando family sued organizations and individuals linked to the defense of Panul, seeking to ban their entry into the forest so they could contaminate and damage it with impunity. Once again, the defenders of Panul have been vindicated and this complaint has been rejected.

At the Municipal Council meeting on Tuesday August 17, Mayor Rodolfo Carter reported receiving two letters. The first, a letter from Inmobiliaria Gesterra, owners of Fundo Panul. The second, a letter from an organization linked to political parties (UPA, Partido Ecologista Verde), called "Salvemos El Panul," which supposedly acted in "representation of the community." The mayor invited both entities to present to the Municipal Council on September 7th.

The municipal council approved last Wednesday the initiation of a new amendment for Bosque Panul. Mayor Rodolfo Carter proposed the measure, which seeks to create a "private green area" in part of the forest, keeping ownership in the hands of real estate developers. The measure is inadequate, as it does not create a public park, does not address the current subdivision project submitted by the real estate company, and does not eliminate the streets defined over the forest in the municipality's Road Plan, among other issues.

Red PrecordilleraCONFIRMED: Real estate company GESTERRA submitted project to urbanize Bosque Panul
According to documents from the Dirección de Obras, the company submitted a project in January of this year seeking to subdivide Fundo Panul into several lots, in order to extend streets such as Av. Central and Rojas Magallanes toward the mountains, among other works. This information was deemed "false" by La Florida mayor Rodolfo Carter in preceding days, but the evidence found confirms the citizens' complaint, making it imperative to change the current Zoning Plan to definitively protect Bosque Panul.

The political responsibility for this should fall on the current mayor of La Florida and candidate Rodolfo Carter, who lied in 2015 when he assured that his new Zoning Plan had saved Bosque Panul.

This complaint seeks to prevent the community from entering the forest and protecting the ecosystem — something thousands of people do every month, consolidating Parque Panul as an important and necessary green lung for Santiago.
